Wil Herrington takes the checkers to complete his Magnolia sweep.
What won the race: Concluding his biggest career weekend, fourth-starting Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., captured Saturday’s $12,000 Clash at the Mag on the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Herrington, whose first career Super Late Model victory came in Friday’s $5,000 opener, completed a weekend sweep.
Quotable: "I want to go race tomorrow (and) the next day," Herrington said. "Let's just keep going and keep riding this out. We got to get back to work Monday ... I'm speechless really. This is just an awesome weekend all around."
Key notes: Herrington accidentially got into the turn-one wall after taking the checkers, damaging the right-rear corner of his machine. ... The race dramatically changed on the 10th lap when race-long leader Dane Dacus slowed entering turn one. Second-starting Tyler Stevens ran into the rear of Dacus and spun, collecting Rick Rickman between turns one and two. ... Kyle Beard took the lead on the lap-10 restart and led until Herrington took command on lap 24. ... Among other cautions: Ryan Wilson's flat tire drew a lap-seven yellow; a multicar tangle on the initial start brought out the first yellow. ... Thirteen drivers completed 50 laps. ... Magnolia hosts the tour again Sept. 4.
On the move: Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., started eighth and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Herrington’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by BGR Speedshop, 5m Construction, Last Air & Electrical, New Point Lighting & Design, Cuttin' Up Salon, Harvey Trucking, Montgomery Logging and Y Delta Inc.
