Kyle Hardy takes the checkers for his $3,500 Hagerstown payday.
What won the race: Outgunning polesitting Rick Eckert for the lead at the initial green flag, Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., never looked back in marching to a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday night's 30-lap Zimmer's United Late Model Series-sanctioned Christmas in July feature at Hagerstown Speedway. Hardy turned back several challenges from Eckert to beat the veteran driver by a scant 0.055 of a second for the $3,500 top prize.
Key notes: Hardy outdueled Eckert, who ran second for the entire distance, to tally his second ULMS triumph of 2022 and the fourth of his career. His previous win this season came on June 17 at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, Pa. ... Gregg Satterlee inherited third on lap 12 when Eddie Carrier Jr.'s car slowed with mechanical trouble and finished in the position; Satterlee won the previous night's ULMS event at Big Diamond Speedway in Forestville, Pa. ... Just one caution flag slowed the race, which lasted 15 minutes and saw 16 competitors complete all 30 laps. ... It was the the ULMS tour's first-ever visit to Hagerstown. ... The series returns to the track on Aug. 13; Hardy's victory guarantees him a starting spot that event, dubbed the Nathan Durboraw Memorial.
On the move: Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, Md., started 22nd and finished 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Hardy’s Sommey Lacey-owned Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Penn Ave Construction, Oliver Electric, Superior Tank, Pinkerton’s Service Center, Reliable Concrete and Schaeffer’s Racing Oil.
Points chase: After Hagerstown: 1. Jared Miley (292); 2. Gregg Satterlee (236); 3. Dave Stamm (160); 4. Rick Eckert (155). 5 Tyler Emory (137).
