What won the race: Dustin Mitchell of Pine Level, N.C., led all 40 laps from the pole position at Fayetteville Motor Speedway on Saturday. He earned $5,000 for his third career feature victory with the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series.
Key notes: Two of Mitchell's three career Carolina Clash wins have come at Fayetteville — but separated by nearly 12 years. He recorded his first-ever Clash triumph at the track on Oct. 9, 2010. ... Fifth-starting Willie Milliken was in the process of overtaking Mitchell for the lead when a caution flag flew; he wasn't able to duplicate the move and settled for the runner-up position, 0.769 of a second behind Mitchell. ... Christian Thomas completed the podium after moving into third on lap 32. ... Dennis "Rambo" Franklin ran as high as second in the early laps before fading to finish fourth. ... The tour's most-recent winner, Adam Yarbrough, completed only 11 laps and finished 19th. ... Multiple weather interruptions delayed the evening and Saturday's feature did not take the green flag until 11:40 p.m. local time. It finished in the early hours of Sunday morning after being slowed by three cautions and lasting 24 minutes, with nine competitors completing all 40 laps. ... The Carolina Clash returns to Fayetteville on Sept. 24.
