What won the race: Keeping Chris and Chad Simpson at bay late in the 30-lapper, polesitter and hometown pilot Spencer Diercks claimed his first career Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory on Friday at Davenport Speedway. He earned $5,000.
Quotable: “If it’s anywhere in the world I’d like to get a win it’d be here,” said Diercks. “I’m from here and I’ve always had bad luck here, but it’s been treating me nice lately. I’m just a dumb concrete guy and I just do this for fun, I’m just speechless. … I knew (Chris Simpson) was out there, but I’ve ran here enough to know that cushion was way up there and it was black all the way up there. It was going to take somebody crazy to get up there and I knew he (Simpson) was kind of a bottom feeder so I stuck down there and stood in my line and there we go.”
Key notes: Despite an early slip-up that allowed Chris Simpson to lead laps 2-3, Diercks regained the spot on the fourth circuit and never looked back for his milestone MLRA triumph. … Friday's MLRA winner, Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo., finished seventh. … The weekend tripleheader concludes with a visit to Maquoketa Speedway on Saturday.
On the move: Tim Simpson of Iowa City, Iowa, started 17th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Diercks’ Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Diercks Ltd., JVC Custom Builders & Remodelers, Mohr Enterprises, Rockstar Energy Drink, Maloney Pub, and T&G Refurbishers.
