What won the race: Leading every lap, outside front-row starter Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., outran fourth-starting Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., to capture Friday’s Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series victory at Duck River Raceway Park. He earned $5,000.
Quotable: “I had a really good car. I could kinda run around through the middle and I felt alright, but I knew when I left off the top that I could get a really good run down the straightaway, so I kinda stayed up there,” says Seawright. “I guess that was (runner-up) Michael (Chilton) there I could hear him at the end a little bit. I was driving as hard as I could. I really wanted to win this one for my dad. He’s been really sick. This is for my dad, just thanks for everything you do for me.”
Key notes: Seawright, debuting a brand new Rocket Chassis, recorded his second series triumph with a flag-to-flag performance in the 40-lapper and then dedicated it to his father Don Seawright, who has been in the hospital dealing with complications from back surgery earlier this year. … The race was slowed by three cautions, with the finally yellow on lap 36 setting up a four-lap dash to the finish. ... Twelve of the 22 starters finished the race. ... Runner-up Michael Chilton grabbed second from polesitter Eli Beets following a mid-race restart. ... After a blown tire on his hauler on the way to the track prevented him from recording a lap in time trials, Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., charged from 21st in the feature to finish eighth. … Fifth-starting Jadon Frame of Winchester, Tenn., retired on lap 25. … Neither Stacy Boles, nor Ricky Weiss, who were third and fourth in series points, respectively, were in attendance. ... The doubleheader weekend wraps up on Saturday with a visit to Talladega Short Track for the fifth annual Governor's Cup.
On the move: Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., started 21st and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Seawright’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Agcor Steel, J&R Lumber, Farm Systems Inc., Grow Pediatric Therapy.
