Jason Feger picked up a $5,000 MARS win at Shadyhill.
What won the race: Executing a perfect last-lap, last-turn slide job for the lead, Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., scored a dramatic victory in Saturday's 40-lap MARS Racing Series feature at Shadyhill Speedway. Feger slipped past race-long pacesetter Ryan Unzicker for the $5,000 win, his third MARS triumph in the last four races.
Quotable: "He was definitely better in three and four than I was and I was better in one and two I feel like," Feger said of his battle for the win with Unzicker. "I felt like I was better on the longer run. I kept showing my nose under him in three and four and he just left it open enough and it was time to strike. I was able to throw a slide job down there. I hope it was pretty clean".
Key notes: Feger's victory was the 14th of his career on the MARS tour, moving him into a tie for ninth on the circuit's all-time win list. ... Unzicker fell 0.054 of a second short at the checkered flag after leading the race's first 39 laps. ... McKay Wenger ran as high as second in the early laps before slipping to third in the final rundown. ... Fourth-starting Rich Dawson raced in fourth the entire distance. ... Saturday marked the MARS tour's first visit to Shadyhill Speedway this season and just the second visit in series history. ... The feature was slowed by two cautions and lasted 14 minutes, with seven competitors completing all 40 laps.
On the move: Tristan Chamberlain of Richmond, Ind., started 20th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis has a Pro Power engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, Hoker Trucking, Floyd’s Waste Systems, Digital Copy Systems, RLM Enterprises, Rosser Battery, Remtek Enterprises, Speedwerx, Cheap Cars and Griffin Signs.
