Tony Jackson Jr. won at Maquoketa Speedway on Saturday, his second MLRA victory in the last three days.
What won the race: Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo., took the lead for good on lap eight and never looked back, pacing the final 23 circuits and cruising to win Saturday's feature at Maquoketa Speedway, earning $5,000. The victory is the second of the weekend for Jackson, who also won Thursday's stop at C.J. Speedway and it is the 13th of his career with the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association.
Quotable: "Yeah we had a great car all three nights, just kinda missed it last night with this new car, kinda tweaking on it and went the wrong way, but it kinda helped us for tonight," Jackson said. "We were good since we unloaded, hot lapped good, timed in good, heat raced real well."
Key notes: After leading laps two through seven, Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, settled for the runner-up position, 0.454 seconds back. .... Ironically, Jackson and Simpson are the tour's two most-recent winners at Maquoketa, with Jackson defending his victory from 2021 and Simpson winning there in 2020. … Frank Heckenast Jr., of Frankfort, Ill., moved into third place on lap 11 and finished there. ... After earning his first career MLRA feature victory at his home track on Friday, Spencer Diercks of Davenport, Iowa, finished fourth. ... With Johnny Scott of Las Cruces, N.M., not attending the race, Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, finished fifth and will be poised to take the series point lead. ... Saturday's feature, the fourth-ever visit to Maquoketa in MLRA series history, went green-to-checkered without any cautions and lasted only nine minutes, with seven competitors completing all 30 laps.
On the move: Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, started eighth and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Jackson’s TJR Motorsports Capital Race Car is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Willard Quarries, Lebanon Ready-Mix, Penske Racing Shocks, Gorsuch Performance Solutions and Eibach Springs.
