Matt Cosner celebrates his career-richest victory.
What won the race: Overtaking Rick Eckert following a restart with two laps remaining, Matt Cosner of Ridgeley, W. Va., claimed his second Zimmer’s United Late Model Series victory in Friday’s Labor Day 55 at Bedford Speedway. He pocketed $12,055 ahead of Ross Robinson and Alex Ferree.
Quotable: "I wasn't gonna back out of it there for nothing," Cosner said. "I was going for it. The wins are hard to get. These guys are tough. I bided my time there, just kind of rolling. … It just played out our way."
Key notes: After leading laps 21-53, Eckert's bid was dive-bombed by a flat right-rear tire that caused him to tumble to 14th in the finishing order. ... Seventh-starting Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, Pa., slammed the turn-three wall after losing control while challenging Eckert for the lead with two laps remaining. Satterlee absorbed an additional hard hit to the left side of his car from Dylan Yoder but escaped injury. ... Mason Zeigler led laps 1-20 but faded to finish ninth. ... Bedford also hosts a four-division program on Sunday headlined by Limited Late Models and Semi-Late divisions.
On the move: Eddie Carrier Jr. of Fairmont, W. Va., started 18th and finished fourth racing as a teammate to Cosner; Michael Norris of Sarver, Pa., started 19th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Cosner’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Line-X, Nelson Auto Sales, Global Truck Outfitters, R.H. Lapp Mechanical Contractors, Mighty Auto Parts, Royal Purple, TC Race Cars and Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic.
Points chase: Before Bedford: 1. Jared Miley 421; 2. Gregg Satterlee (339); 3. Dave Stamm (233), 4. Rick Eckert (222); 5. Danny Snyder (202).
