Don Shaw captured his second John Seitz Memorial.
What won the race: Don Shaw of Ham Lake, Minn., took the lead with an inside move on lap 10 and paced the final 83 laps Saturday at River Cities Speedway. winning the 16th annual John Seitz Memorial and the $9,200 payday. Shaw, the 2017 winner, became the fourth driver to claim multiple Seitz Memorial victories.
Quotable: "Yeah I kinda found a different gear to put it in and figured I better get moving. Either way, (Diemel) was going to keep pace with me, I'm sure," Shaw said. "I tell you, I've been thinking about the day that I'm gonna retire and I told myself the other day, 'Am I gonna retire after I win two or not?' I don't know, I just feel so good in the car still."
Key notes: A.J. Diemel of Elk Mound, Wis., advanced 15 positions and closed within a few lengths of Shaw before the last caution on lap 82, but settled for the runner-up position, 1.776 seconds back. Diemel leads all drivers with three career Seitz Memorial wins and has never failed to finish outside of the top-three in this event. ... Cole Searing of Huron, S.D., utilized a last-lap pass to finish third. ... Chad Mahder of Eau Claire, Wis., ran second for the majority of the second half before fading to finish fourth. ... Jeff Massingill of Keewatin, Minn., advanced 14 positions and finished fifth. ... Dustin Strand led lap one and laps four through nine before being overtaken by Shaw. Strand elected to change a tire during the lap-32 fuel stop and restarted 16th, recovering to finish sixth at his home track. ... Jordan Tollakson gained 13 positions and finished ninth. ... Polesitter Ryan Corbett led laps two and three before fading to finish 14th. ... Saturday's feature, a race that honors John Seitz, a veteran late model racer who tragically died at age 36, was slowed by nine cautions, including a 10-minute fuel stop on lap 32 and lasted just over one hour, with 15 drivers completing all 92 laps.
