What won the race: Fifth-starting Rodney Sanders of Happy, Texas, utilized the low line in turn four to power underneath Tyler McDonald on lap 17 Tuesday and paced the final four circuits at Clay County Fair Speedway, winning the $3,000 Battle of the Blue Ribbon. Sanders won his first career feature RepairableVehicles.com Tri-State Series feature.
Quotable: "Tyler ran a good race. He slipped up just a little bit and we kinda made contact, but I felt like that's what I had to do to win the race," Sanders said. "This thing (Late Model) has been sitting for three or four months and we decided to get it out and bring it over here, so it all worked out."
Key notes: McDonald of Huron, S.D., led laps two through 16 before being overtaken by Sanders and settling for the runner-up position. ... Previous series winner at Clay County Fair, Chad Olsen of Hendricks, Minn., moved into third place on the lap-13 restart and rounded-out the podium. ... Shane DeMey of Denison, Iowa, advanced five positions and finished fourth. ... Gary Brown Jr., of Brandon, S.D., gained 10 spots and finished fifth. ... Nate Beyenhof gained five positions and David McDonald advanced seven spots, as they finished eighth and 10th, respectively. … Second-starting Scott Ward of Watertown, S.D., led the first lap, but pulled-off before completing all of the laps and finished 20th. ... Tuesday's feature, the 16th stop on the Tri-State Series’ 18-race schedule this year and fourth-ever visit to Clay County Fair Speedway, was slowed by four cautions including one brief red flag when David Carlson flipped at the entrance of turn one on lap five, and lasted 20 minutes. Carlson was uninjured but unable to continue and finished 22nd. … The Tri-State Series concludes its season on Oct. 7-8, with two $1,500-to-win features at Murray County (Minn.) Speedway.
