Joseph Joiner celebrates atop his winning car at All-Tech Raceway.
What won the race: After leading the first 39 laps from the pole largely uncontested, Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., battled multiple challengers in the closing laps and led the final seven circuits Saturday at All-Tech Raceway, winning the $27,000 27th annual Powell Family Memorial presented by Bubba’s Site Prep. Joiner won his second five-figure payday with the Crate Racin' USA series at All-Tech after winning last year's $10,000 tour stop there.
Quotable: "I don't even know how to tell you (it feels to win this race), I just hope we get to do more of these races, where we can start winning these things and getting our name in some history books here," Joiner said. "This is great, this race is awesome, the atmosphere here, all the fans and all the good race cars that showed up."
Key notes: Fourteenth-starting Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led lap 40 and then paced laps 48 through 56 before settling for the runner-up spot, 0.283 of a second back. ... Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., led laps 57 through 60 before losing the lead to Joiner on the last restart and finishing third. ... Michael Page gained two spots and finished fourth. ... Sam Seawright finished seventh after winning the 20-lap non-qualifiers special and declining the $750 bonus. ... Kyle Strickler and Jason Welshan each advanced 16 positions, finishing eighth and 10th. ... Winner of the $25,000 Powell Family Memorial in 2020, Mark Whitener completed only 61 laps and finished 21st. ... Dan Schlieper, the 2003 World 100 winner from Oak Creek Wis., made a rare return to competition this weekend, but scratched from his consolation race. ... Saturday's feature, the Powell Family Memorial pays tribute to James Powell III, of Astor, Fla., a former driver who lost six family members in a plane crash nearly 30 years ago, was slowed by eight cautions and lasted 56 minutes, with 14 competitors completing all 67 laps.
On the move: Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., started 25th and finished seventh.
