Ross Bailes was happy to inherit the $10,000 at Cherokee Speedway.
What won the race: Inheriting $10,000 when Brandon Overton was disqualified for a postrace deck-height violation, Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., was declared the winner of Saturday's Fall Brawl at Cherokee Speedway. Bailes notched his third Ultimate Southeast Series victory of the season and the 12th of his career.
Quotable: "I hate it for him (Brandon Overton). I wasn't the one who kicked him out, so I hope these people aren't booing me," said Bailes. "What really sucks is that he ran 50 whole laps and nothing to show for it, but hey, the other two cars behind him passed droop, so it's part of it I guess."
Key notes: Bailes has three victories at Cherokee in 2022 worth more than $25,000. ... Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., led all but the first five laps before failing postrace inspection of the so-called droop rule and being credited with 24th. ... Seventh-starting Cla Knight was credited with finishing in second place, 1.631 seconds behind Bailes. ... Trent Ivey advanced five positions and finished third. ... Michael Brown ran as high as second in the early laps before fading to finish fourth. ... Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., finished sixth and clinched his fourth career Ultimate Southeast Series championship. ... Jeff Smith and Austin Kirkpatrick each gained four spots, finishing eighth and ninth. ... Polesitter Brett Hamm led the first five laps before making contact with the turn two wall and ending his night, finishing 22nd. ... Taylor Puckett scratched for the night and was credited with finishing 23rd. ... Saturday's feature, the season finale for the Ultimate Southeast Series and 14th-ever visit to the Gaffney, S.C.-oval, was slowed by two cautions and lasted 19 minutes, with 13 drivers completing all 50 laps.
On the move: Carson Ferguson of Lincolnton, N.C., started 11th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Bailes drove a Billy Hicks-owned Longhorn Chassis powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by H&H Auto Sales, Ultimate Towing & Recovery, Wakefield Logging, Felony Farms, Bailes Construction, Hoosier Tire South, Fred Caldwell Chevrolet and Bilstein Shocks.
