What won the race: Joseph Brown of Pine Mountain Valley, Ga., cruised to an uncontested flag-to-flag triumph in Saturday afternoon's 40-lap 604 Crate Late Model feature at East Alabama Motor Speedway. He beat Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series regular Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, to the finish line by 1.450 seconds to collect the $5,000 winner's check.
Quotable: “I haven’t gotten to race a whole lot this year because we’ve been building a house,” Brown said. “I wish we could keep going. I haven’t run bad all year, but I haven’t but six times. I usually race 20, 25 times a year, and I’ve only raced six times and I’ve won the most races I’ve won in a Late Model.”
Key notes: Brown completed a sweep of the weekend's 604 Crate Late Model action after also turning the fastest time in Friday's qualifying. ... Brown backed up his $5,000 victory in last month's Alabama State Championship event for 604 Crate Late Models at EAMS. ... Russ Ogletree relinquished second on lap 22 due to a flat tire. ... Ricky Culpepper’s race came to an end on lap two after contact between him and Cody Overton as they battled for fourth place. Culpepper, who slid off the track in turn three, stopped in front of Overton’s car on the homestretch to express his displeasure; after he accelerated away to the pits officials sent off for the remainder of the race. … Overton’s hopes were ultimately dashed on lap nine when a scrape caused him to spin off turn four and collect two other cars. ... The feature was slowed by 10 caution flags and lasted just over 50 minutes.
On the move: Rodgerick Dykes of Smiths Station, Ala., started 23rd and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Brown’s Black Diamond Race Car carries a Southeastern Performance engine and sponsorship from Knox Towing & Collision, Bloomwood, Sasser’s Auto & Painting, Knott’s and Stark.
