Sam Seawright takes the checkered flag to win Feb. 19 at Duck River.
What won the race: Taking the lead on lap eight, fourth-starting Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., narrowly held-off a charging Josh Putnam in the closing laps at Duck River Raceway Park, winning Sunday's $5,000 Winterfest feature. Seawright topped the unsanctioned Super Late Model field to secure his first main event victory of the season.
Quotable: "That was awesome, we had a good race there with Jadon and Putnam and everybody," Seawright said. Really, Hanger showed me what to do off the outside off that start. I entered on the bottom behind Jadon and Christian was right there on the outside and a caution come out and I kinda knew what to do, but that was a great race, I had a lot of fun."
Key notes: Putnam, of Florence, Ala., moved into the runner-up position when early race leader Jadon Frame retired on lap 37 and began quickly closing the gap on Seawright in the final three circuits. Putnam challenged Seawright for the lead on the final lap, making slight contact before finishing 0.321 of a second back. ... Second-starting Frame led the first seven laps before being overtaken by Seawright and pulled into the infield after showing heavy smoke, finishing 13th. ... Jason Riggs gained seven positions and finished third. ... After leading all 40 laps in Saturday's Topless Outlaw season opener at Duck River Christian Hanger finished fourth. ... David Brannon gained 10 spots and finished eighth. ... Chris Hawkins advanced seven spots and finished 10th. ... Polesitter Tim Lance failed to lead a lap and spun while battling Josh Putnam for third on lap 21. Lance was able to continue, but retired after a multi-car incident on the ensuing restart and finished 14th. ... Sunday's feature, the finale of Duck River's two-day Winterfest event, was slowed by six cautions, including a 10-minute red flag and lasted 44 minutes with 11 drivers completing 40 laps.
On the move: Dean Carpenter of Coldwater, Miss., started 24th and finished sixth.
