What won the race: Grabbing the lead from pole-starting Benji Hicks on lap 13, outside front-row starter Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led the rest of Sunday's 100-lap UBB Miners Memorial at Beckley Motor Speedway to earn $20,000 on the American All-Star Series.
Key notes: Hedgecock scored his third All-Stars victory of the season. ... Benji Hicks of Mount Airy, N.C., ended up 14th after surrendering second on lap 14. … Series points leader Josh Dietz of Hebron, Ky., finished fourth. … Sixth-starting Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., raced to a second-place finish using a motor he recently acquired from T.J. Salango after damaging his own powerplant in Friday's dash. ... The 13th annual UBB Miners Memorial event kicked off with time trials, heat races and a dash on Friday with Saturday's scheduled main event pushed to Sunday. ... The event was founded by Keith Bowling and honors those miners who lost their lives in the Upper Big Branch Mine tragedy.
