What won the race: Pole-starting Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led all 50 laps at I-75 Raceway, outdueling Mark Whitener to win Friday's $5,000 Crate Racin' USA feature. Hedgecock notched his ninth overall triumph of the season, his second at I-75 and his third CRUSA victory. Hedgecock now has more than $12,500 in race winnings this year at the Sweetwater, Tenn., oval.
Quotable: “It’s BMF (Race Cars) for sure, man I tell ya they’re badass and I just don’t understand why people ain’t lined up at the door for them,” Hedgecock said. “Towards the end there, I just couldn’t get around some lapped traffic. Ricky (Weiss) ran second, I knew he was kinda getting there close and everything, I just could not get through lapped traffic for nobody. The top was just so much faster and then just the dirty air and everything, but cautions fell the right way and everything, so we’ll take them any way we can get them.”
Key notes: Winner Cory Hedgecock survived a slowly deflating tire late in the race. ... Ricky Weiss battled Mark Whitener for the entirety of Friday's feature, prevailing to finish a distant runner-up, 1.581 seconds behind Hedgecock. ... Fourteenth-starting Chip Brindle nearly stole second place from Weiss on the last lap, with Brindle settling for third place in a photo finish. ... Whitener, of Middleburg, Fla., ran as high as second but never challenged for the lead and faded to finish fourth. ... Blake Craft advanced five positions and finished fifth. ... Hunter Peacock gained four spots and finished seventh. ... Jackson Hise started 20th and finished ninth. ... Reigning CRUSA champ Jason Welshan initially overcame a lap-seven crash with Trynt Lloyd and ran as high as fourth before mechanical failure ended his night on lap 22. ... Lloyd, of Jacksonville, Fla., was unable to continue after the race's first caution and finished 23rd. ... Friday's feature was slowed by five incidents and lasted 31 minutes, with 15 drivers completing all 50 laps.
On the move: Richie Stephens of Phenix City, Ala., started 22nd and finished 10th.
