Bill Leighton soaks in a $3,000 victory at Adams County Speedway.
What won the race: Pole-starting Bill Leighton Jr. of Omaha, Neb., led all 25 laps at Adams County Speedway, winning Saturday's $3,000 Ray Houck Memorial. Leighton Jr. was largely unchallenged in securing his second Malvern Bank Series victory of the season and the 18th of his career.
Quotable: “Oh yeah, any time you can start up front (it’s important),” Leighton Jr. said. “Yeah (the lapped traffic) was alright, they were running the same line they’ve been running all night, so you could see where they were. This one is pretty special, (car owner) Mark (Wright’s) father passed away on Monday, so this was for him.”
Key notes: Dylan Sillman ceded the runner-up spot to Charlie McKenna early, before regaining it on a lap-21 restart, finishing 2.280 seconds behind Leighton. ... Justin Zeitner advanced four positions and finished third. ... McKenna, of Ames, Iowa, faded to finish fourth. ... Tad Pospisil started and finished fifth. ... Winner of the first three Malvern Bank Series races to start the season, tour points leader Jesse Sobbing advanced two positions and finished sixth. ... Paul Glendenning gained three spots and finished 10th. ... - The event honors Raphael “Ray” Allan Houck who passed away in July, 2014 at the age of 59. Ray enjoyed Adams County Speedway and promoted racing events at the Corning, Iowa, oval for six years prior to his death. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by two cautions and lasted 14 minutes, with 13 competitors completing all 25 laps.
On the move: J.C. Wyman of Griswold, Iowa, started 14th and finished seventh.
