Pat Doar (11) races by Dave Mass (2) to win Friday's WISSOTA Challenge feature, collecting his third straight series victory.
What won the race: Regaining the lead with an inside move out of turn two, Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., led the final nine laps at Fiesta City Speedway, winning Friday's $3,000 Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series feature. Doar led twice for 32 laps (1-23; 32-40) to collect his third straight series victory and the 39th of his career; Doar now has five overall wins this season and notched the 301st of his career.
Quotable: “It’s only a matter of time (before someone else wins), you just can’t win ‘em all, I’ve just been on a lucky streak,” Doar said. “Somebody is gonna go driving by and Dave (Mass) drove by and just hiccuped once and I was in the right spot, got lucky. I’m just kinda out there doing my thing, you don’t see anybody, it’s hard to lead and (Mass) went blowing by me, I’m like darn, that’s probably not what I said, but I actually snookered him on the way back by.”
Key notes: A night after being disqualified from fourth position, Jake Redetzke moved into second place on the final lap, finishing 0.963 of a second back. ... Seventh-starting Dave Mass led laps 24 through 31 before being overtaken by Doar and Mass in the closing laps, finishing third. ... A night after a runner-up finish, Darrell Nelson finished fourth. ... Chad Olsen ran second in the early laps before fading to finish fifth. ... Josh Zimpel advanced 10 positions and finished sixth. ... Sam Mars gained six spots and finished seventh. ... Bryce Sward moved forward seven positions and placed eighth. ... Jeff Massingill started 17th and finished ninth. ... Don Shaw scratched for the evening after tangling with Morgan Ward Grosz in their heat race; Ward Grosz retired on lap two of the main event, finishing 21st. ... Apparent fifth-place finisher John Kaanta was disqualified in postrace technical inspection. ... Friday's feature was slowed by 10 separate incidents and lasted 39 minutes, with 10 drivers completing 40 laps.
On the move: Josh Zimpel of Braham, Minn., started 16th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Doar’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Tri Star Engines and Transmissions, Kivi Brothers Trucking, Polar Industries and Speedwerx Performance Exhaust.
