Billy Moyer Jr. en route to winning his 11th career DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature.
What won the race: Regaining the point when leader Drake Troutman sustained a flat right rear tire on lap 22, second-starting Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville Ark., led the final eight laps at Moberly Motorsports Park, winning Tuesday's $5,000 DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature. Moyer Jr. notched his first victory of the season and the 11th of his Summer Nationals career.
Quotable: “Oh man, he (Drake Troutman) had the best car. He drove good and was doing a real good job,” Moyer said. “We’re going to take this, we (should have) had (a) $5,000 (win) at Jackson a couple weeks ago and had a flat with 12 to go, which was our race and this was his race. Rickman won that one and I won this one; we won this one, it’s my guys, not me.”
Key notes: Moyer led twice for a total of 25 laps, including the first 16 from the outside front row. ... Fifth-starting Troutman, of Hyndman, Pa., steadily worked through the field and used an outside move entering turn one on lap 17, clearing Moyer Jr. for the lead at the exit of turn two; Troutman led laps 17-22 before exploding a right rear tire, causing heavy body damage. The failed right rear Hoosier is Troutman's third while contending in the last 12 days, dating back to the beginning of Appalachian Mountain Speedweek competition. ... Seventh-starting Jason Feger inherited the runner-up position on the lap-23 restart and kept pace with Moyer Jr. in the closing laps, finishing 0.649 of a second back despite late distributor issues; Feger earned his second consecutive runner-up finish and his third in the last five Summer Nationals starts. ... Australian racer Kye Blight finished third, securing his best career Summer Nationals result. ... Chad Finley advanced five positions and finished fourth, earning his second straight top-five tour finish after placing third on Sunday at Sycamore Speedway. ... Tyler Clem gained five spots, finishing seventh and had a broken faceshield after being struck but a rock on the last restart. ... Daniel Hilsabeck and Johnathan Huston spun out of turn four coming to the checkers, crediting them with ninth- and 10th-place finishes. ... Fourth-running Morgan Bagley, who started on the pole and contended early, hopped the turn-two cushion and hit the wall, ending his night on lap 26. ... The winner's father, Hall of Famer Billy Moyer, retired on lap 22 while running fifth, after losing an oil line. ... Ashton Winger made only two laps before retiring from third place, when he lost oil pressure. ... Cody Bauer (multicar heat-race incident) and Trevor Gundaker (broken oil pump belt) both had problems in heat action. ... Tuesday's feature was slowed by three incidents and lasted 18 minutes, with 10 drivers completing 30 laps.
On the move: Bob Gardner of Washington, Ill., started 16th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Moyer Jr.’s Longhorn Chassis has a Clements Racing Engine and sponsorship from Phillips CPA Firm, Henderson Motorsports, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Keith Hammet Trucking & Construction, DirtLateModel.com, Pontiac RV, High Tech Special Effects, Merrell Bail Bonding, M&M Paint and Construction, FK Rod Ends, Bilstein Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuels, Allstar Performance, Eibach Springs, Accu Force, Wiles, Bert Transmission, Performance Bodies, XS Battery, Hooker Harness, Bell Helmets, FSR Racing, Frankland Racing Supply, Outerwear's, Midwest Sheet Metal and New Vision Graphics.
