Max Blair steers the Centerline Motorsports Rocket to victory.
What won the race: Pole-starting Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., overtook Cody Overton the ninth lap and never looked back, pacing the final 42 laps to win Saturday's $20,000 33rd annual Bill Emig Memorial at Lernerville Speedway. Driving the Centerline Motorsports No. 00k, Blair notched his third career Emig Memorial victory and his 31st career RUSH Crate Late Model Series triumph.
Quotable: “Phew I’m wore out, I need a Red Bull or something,” an exhausted Blair said. “This thing was really really good, we brought it to our shop a couple weeks ago and we’ve been tweaking on it, tweaking on it and we got it a little better, a little better all weekend this weekend. That was a lot of fun, racing with Cody (Overton) is always fun and man them cautions were starting to really bum me out there for a second; anything can happen on them restarts.”
Key notes: Blair was also awarded the $7,000 D&V Jewelers Diamond Championship, increasing his Crate Late Model earnings to more than $27,000 on the weekend. ... Overton, of Evans, Ga., led the first eight laps before being overtaken by Blair, finishing a scant 0.748 of a second back. ... Joe Martin moved into third on lap two and rounded-out the podium. ... Michael Norris advanced eight positions and finished fourth at his home track. ... After winning a $10,000 Crate Late Model race at Latrobe Speedway earlier this month, Darrell Lanigan finished fifth aboard a Dick Neal-owned Daughtery Motorsports Rocket Chassis. ... Mike Wonderling Jr. gained nine spots and finished eighth. ... Tyler Bare started 23rd and finished 11th. … The race honors Bill Emig, the late car owner and father of series director Vicki Emig. Emig was a Semi-Late and six-cylinder modified car owner from 1969 until his passing in 1990, winning more than 300 features and multiple track championships. He was one of the original recipients of Lernerville’s Milestone in Racing award in 1988. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by multiple cautions and lasted 37 minutes, with 20 drivers completing 50 laps.
On the move: Jeremy Wonderling of Wellsville, N.Y., started 22nd and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Blair’s Centerline Motorsports-owned Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Three Rivers Karting, Gable Inn, Mailliard Electric, Lakeside Beer, Eber & Associates Insurance Services, Krebs, Morow’s Masonry, AQS Properties, Penske Racing Shocks and Octane Customs.
