Jason Feger enjoys the Brownstown Bullring's victory lane.
What won the race: Leading all 50 laps from outside the front row, Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., raced to his first DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory of the season Friday at the Brownstown Bullring. Feger's 24th careeer series victory paid $10,000 as he took the checkers 0.346 of a second ahead of Billy Moyer
Key notes: After his cool-down lap, Feger drove backwards down the frontstretch with his helmet held out the window to salute the big crowd. ... Billy Moyer gave up second to Shannon Babb on the 17th lap when he briefly slipped over the frontstretch banking, but regained it on a restart four laps later. ... The lone caution flew on lap 22 when Logan Nickerson spun in turn four after contact with Kyle Hammer. ... The race was mostly single file the final 15 laps. ... The series returned to action following Thursday’s cancellation at Spoon River, where water trucks were inoperable. ... Series director Sam Driggers at the drivers’ meeting announced a change in the allowed number of tires on the tour. Drivers had been allowed four tires and two replacements the first two weeks of the series; starting Tuesday at Springfield (Mo.) Raceway they’ll be allowed a single replacement (typically used as a right-rear for the feature). Driggers made the change the cut down the number of tires required. ... Third-running Trevor Gundaker had a rollover accident in the fourth heat, but he wasn’t injured. ... Before heat races, track workers did extensive dozing of the turn-four exit’s high side, knocking down piled-up mud. It still caused issues for some drivers, particularly Billy Moyer whose right-rear wheel hit it multiple times in the feature.
On the move: Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., started 24th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis has a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, Digital Copy Systems, Hoker Trucking, The Big Cheese MM, Floyd’s Waste Systems, Remtek Enterprises, and RLM Enterprises and Cheap Cars.
