Bobby Pierce celebrates his $10,000 victory at Mason City.
What won the race: Leading the final 15 laps Tuesday at Mason City Motor Speedway after Tanner English's blown right-rear tire, polesitter Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., captured his second straight $10,000 victory on World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series and moved into the series points lead. Pierce took the checkers in the 40-lapper 0.745 of a second ahead of runner-up Shane Clanton, WoO's 2016 winner at Mason City.
Quotable: "We came here tonight knowing it was going to be a fast, banked track, and didn't know what all to expect," Pierce said, then dedicated the race to crewman Zach Huston. "This is his one-year anniversary of him being with me as a crew guy. He made it a full year, congratulations. I know it's been tough."
Key notes: Debuting at Mason City, Pierce notched his WoO-leading fourth full-field victory of 2023 and eighth of his career. ... Chris Madden, who has led WoO points most of the season, finished 13th and dropped to third in the standings. ... The race had four slowdowns, including one on the 27th lap for Tanner English's flat down the frontstretch as Pierce blew past. ... Home-state driver Todd Cooney had a lap-35 flat and a lap-24 yellow appeared when Dustin Walker ended up sideways in turn two after getting the worst of a battle for third between Shane Clanton and Brian Shirley (Clanton retained his spot but Shirley restarted on the tail). ... The first stoppage was on the sixth lap when Jason Strand's car got upside down atop turn three; he wasn't hurt but the wreck required an eight-minute red-flag cleanup. ... An electrical outage caused a brief delay earlier in the program. ... Spencer Diercks scratched for the evening following hot laps. ... Mason City's race came in the middle of WoO's Heartland Speedweek, which continues Wednesday at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D.
On the move: Brent Larson of Lake Elmo, Minn., started 12th and finished sixth.
