Jason Feger hoists Friday's winnings at Jacksonville sky-high.
What won the race: Second-starting Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., fought off challenges from Ryan Unzicker in the closing stages and led all 40 caution-plagued laps at Jacksonville Speedway, winning Friday's $5,000 ninth annual Wild Man Kelly Classic. Feger notched his fourrth MARS victory of the season and 19th of his career.
Quotable: “Yeah I know somebody here in Jacksonville has a big Busch Light for me, they like to drink down here,” Feger said. “Man, I gotta say thanks to the tow truck drivers, they were the hardest working guys here tonight. That was a long race, thanks to these fans for coming out and supporting us, we love getting to come here. This place always has a little character, but it had a lot of character tonight.”
Key notes: Fourth-starting Ryan Unzicker made it interesting late, nearly drawing even with Feger for several laps before finishing 0.287 of a second back. ... Modified standout Mike Harrison ran as high as second before giving way to Unzicker and settling for third. ... Missourian Tony Jackson Jr. was third. ... Bob Gardner advanced seven positions and finished fifth. ... Fast qualifier Drake Troutman was running seventh when he retired on lap 25. ... Pole-starting Jake Little drew the race's first caution when he spun from third on lap 10; he retired. ... Friday's feature was slowed by five cautions and lasted 32 minutes, with seven drivers completing all 40 laps; nine cars were running at the finish. … Cody Laney scratched after heat action. ... The MARS doubleheader concludes with Saturday’s $5,000-to-win stop at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.
On the move: Blaze Burwell of Mount Vernon, Ill., started 16th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis has a Jay Dickens Racing Engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, Digital Copy Systems, Hoker Trucking, The Big Cheese MM, Floyd’s Waste Systems, Remtek Enterprises, and RLM Enterprises and Cheap Cars.
