What won the race: Taking the lead when race-long pacesetter Kyle Berck sustained a flat right-front tire on lap 12, third-starting Bill Leighton Jr. of Omaha, Neb., staved off Andrew Kosiski in the closing stages to win Saturday's 25-lap Malvern Bank Series feature at Junction Motor Speedway. Leighton collected $3,000 for his third series victory of the season and the 19th of his career.
Quotable: “I guess it was our turn to skip the gremlins. We’d been getting them the last couple of nights,” Leighton said. “(Our weekend) has been up-and-down a little bit. We broke a right-rear bar in our heat race last night and started in the back. But we like coming here. This track is always good to us and we run good here.”
Key notes: Marquette, Neb.'s Berck changed the flat tire and completed three more laps before pulling off for good. ... The fourth-starting Kosiski nearly drew alongside Leighton on lap 23 before losing ground on the last circuit and finishing 0.885 of a second back. ... Fifth-starting Tad Pospisil moved into third on a lap-16 restart and rounded out the podium, extending his series points lead. ... Seventh-starting J.C. Wyman finished fourth. ... Eleventh-starting Derrick Stewart also took advantage of the lap-16 restart and completed the top five. ... Corey Zeitner advanced six positions and finished sixth. ... Charlie McKenna finished 12th after winning Friday's $3,000 weekend opener at Thayer County Fairgrounds. ... Justin Zeitner drew the third and final caution when he slowed running second on lap 15; he was unable to continue. ... Jay Burdic stopped to cause the first yellow on the opening lap and required a tow back to the pits. ... Saturday's 23-minute feature had 15 drivers complete the entire 25-lap distance.
On the move: Late Model rookie Dylan Sillman of Alvo, Neb., started 20th and finished seventh.
