Gregg Satterlee was a $5,000 winner at Port Royal Speedway.
What won the race: Tuning up for Port Royal Speedway’s biggest Dirt Late Model event of the season, Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, Pa., rolled to a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday night’s 25-lap Living Legends Dream Race. He handled two late-race restarts to claim the $5,000 winner’s prize by 1.040 seconds over Matt Cosner.
Quotable: “We have a really good stretch of racing here going,” Satterlee said. “The car seems to be working well, we’re qualifying well, getting ourselves in position up front at the start of these features to get wins. I’m looking forward to coming back next weekend. Hopefully we can be competitive and run up front with the Lucas (Oil Series) guys.”
Key notes: Satterlee registered his second triumph of the season at Port Royal, which hosts the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned Rumble on the River on Aug. 25-26 with a $50,000 first-place payoff posted for the finale. … The victory was Satterlee’s third straight over nine days, his fourth in his last six starts and eighth overall of 2023. … Hayes Mattern chased Satterlee from second place for 24 laps but slipped to sixth in the finishing order after faltering on a final-circuit restart. … Eighth-starting Cosner reached third on lap 20 and surged to his runner-up placing by passing Mattern on the lap-24 restart. … Andrew Yoder, Rick Eckert and Nick Dickson also slipped past Mattern to finish in positions 3-5. … The race ran uninterrupted until lap 22 when Justin Kann slowed in turn two to bring out a caution flag. … A multi-car tangle between turns one and two — involving Drake Troutman, Alex Ferree, Justin Weaver, Brett Schadel and Gene Knaub — triggered a red flag for safety crews to clean up the wreck. No injuries were reported. … The unsanctioned event was originally scheduled for July 29 before being postponed by rain.
On the move: Gary Stuhler of Greencastle, Pa., started 22nd and finished 11th.
