Joseph Joiner emerges in victory lane at Needmore Speedway.
What won the race: Third-starting Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., used an inside move to muscle his way past race-long leader Wil Herrington on lap 13 and paced the final 28 circuits to win Friday's $5,000 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series feature at Needmore Speedway. Notching his first career series triumph, Joiner earned his fourth Super Late Model victory of the season and his first since April 1 at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Quotable: “Man you have no idea, it gets in your head, like ‘am I ever gonna win one of these’,” Joiner said. “I know we were good tonight, we took off from the beginning and was kinda pacing Wil (Herrington) there. It felt really good and then we got shuffled back on that (lap five) restart. Got settled back into third and I knew I run them two guys down really quick. Everything worked out, good night of racing.”
Key notes: Joiner's victory makes it nine different winners through the first 11 series races. ... Pole-starting Wil Herrington led the first 12 laps before giving way to Joiner and suffering race-ending mechanical failure while running second on lap 21. ... Dalton Cook regained the runner-up position on the lap-22 restart and trailed Joiner the rest of the way, finishing 1.245 seconds back. ... Fourth-starting Jordy Nipper overcame a spin and flat left rear on lap two, finishing third. ... Series points leader Josh Putnam advanced five positions and finished fourth. ... Steven Roberts ran as high as third before slipping to finish fifth. ... Ryan Crane sustained a flat left rear and drew the race's first caution on lap two, before recovering to finish sixth after changing the tire. ... John Henderson gained six spots and finished eighth. ... Joseph Brown ran as high as fifth before pulling off on lap 30. ... Clay Harris pulled off during pace laps before taking the green. ... Friday's 40-lap feature was slowed by five cautions and lasted 30 minutes, with nine drivers completing the entire distance and 11 running at the finish.
On the move: Bo Slay of Milton, Fla., started 16th and finished seventh.
