Troy Springborn won a photo finish at Shawano Speedway.
What won the race: Sixth-starting Troy Springborn of Shawano, Wis., used an inside move out of turn four to pass race-long leader Terry Casey and beat him to the line by 0.045 of a second in a photo finish to win Saturday's $1,500 Kings Classic at his home track. Springborn secured his first Wabam Dirt Kings Tour victory of the season and the fourth of his career.
Quotable: “Well I could see Terry (Casey) struggling there a little bit with the lapped cars,” Springborn said. “I mean we were both kinda struggling with the lapped cars, but he seen me on the inside and I think he got in (to the corner) a little bit hard and slid up; I think if he would’ve protected a little bit, he would’ve (won) it.”
Key notes: Second-starting Casey, of New London, Wis., led the first 24 laps relatively unchallenged before being overtaken by Springborn in the final 100 feet. ... Andy Karl completed the podium. ... Tom Naeyaert and Lukas Postl each advanced two positions, finishing sixth and seventh. ... Joel Bennett gained five spots and finished eighth. ... Pole-starting Jayden Schmidt held the runner-up spot for the first 10 laps before Springborn passed him and began his pursuit of Casey; Schmidt pulled off on lap 16 while running third. ... Saturday's nine-minute feature was completed without incident, with 15 drivers completing 25 laps and 18 running at the finish.
On the move: Five-time series champion Nick Anvelink of Bonudel, Wis., started 20th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Sprinborn’s MB Customs Race Car is powered by a Pro Power Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Scott Construction, T.L. Kersten Excavating, Bolins Speedy Ts, Krueger's Septic & Sewer, CPF Metal Fabrication, Frank Wallace Flooring, Raddant Electric Service and Marshal Giese Plumbing.
