Michael Page discusses his Hunt the Front victory at Senoia.
What won the race: Polesitter Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga., muscled underneath race-long pacesetter Ashton Winger with an inside move on lap 27 and led the final 14 circuits to win Saturday's $5,400 Head Family Memorial at Senoia Raceway, earning his first career Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series victory.
Quotable: “I just really needed to win a race, I want to win every race” Page said. “Me and Ashton (Winger) run hard and (the track) kinda rubbered there and he missed the rubber and he opened the door and I went in there and when he closed it, there just wasn’t no stopping it. I wish (the track) wouldn’t have rubbered up, I wish we could’ve raced.”
Key notes: Second-starting Winger, of Hampton, Ga., led the first 26 laps before contact from Page caused left-front suspension damage, ending his night. ... Fourth-starting Zack Mitchell followed Page by Winger on the 27th circuit and trailed him the rest of the way, finishing 1.320 seconds back. ... Ninth-starting Trey Mills took third on lap 30 and rounded-out the podium. ... Jordy Nipper and Joseph Joiner each improved five positions, finishing fifth and sixth. ... John Henderson gained nine spots and finished seventh. ... Jason Croft drew the race's second caution on a lap-six restart attempt when he nosed hard into the turn-three wall, ending his night. ... The event honors the Head family, including Mike Head Sr., the larger than life Georgia racer whose orange No. 54 cars captured more than 650 feature victories across the Southeast; Mike Sr. died on Feb. 22, 2021, at the age of 69 after a lengthy health crisis. The event also pays homage to Michael Head Jr., Mike’s fallen son who was killed in an Atlanta carjacking attempt that went wrong. ... For the second straight night, Clay Harris suffered mechanical problems under pace laps and was unable to take the green. ... Saturday's 40-lap feature was slowed by four separate incidents and lasted 24 minutes, with 13 drivers completing the entire distance and 17 running at the finish. ... Caden Mullinax and Craig Scott scratched from the main event.
On the move: Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., started 24th and finished 10th.
