Pre-race notes
It's a warmer (high of 59) but blustery (steady winds excess of 20 mph) day for the second round of the Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts at Vado Speedway Park, which entertained yet again on Saturday's opening night. ... Saturday's winner Cade Dillard and runner-up Bobby Pierce find themselves both in Group B, with Pierce qualifying second and Dillard fifth, respectively. ... Pavement stock car racer Kaden Honeycutt, a part-time competitor on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck circuit and Super Late Model rookie, impressed with Sunday's quick-time honors. His lap of 14.860 seconds is six-tenths slower than Garrett Alberson's fast mark on Saturday. ... Alberson, meanwhile, has to resort to a backup car after the harmonic balancer failed in his engine following his time trial run. ... On the front rows of the heats: Honeycutt and Mike Marlar, Kyle Larson and Jake Timm, Don Shaw and Stormy Scott, and Illinois ringers Pierce and Shannon Babb.
