What won the race: Overcoming a mid-race restart infraction and then overtaking Jeremy Steele to regain the point on lap 24, second-starting Tyler Clem of St. Petersburg, Fla., scored a $5,000 victory in Saturday's inaugural 40-lap Stevie Whitener Memorial for 604 Crate Late Models at All-Tech Raceway. Clem was ruled to have jumped the lap-20 restart and penalized a row, giving the top spot to the pole-starting Steele, who led laps 20-23 before ceding the position back to Clem and finishing 0.964 of a second back.
Quotable: “Yeah, I wasn’t happy (with the restart infraction ruling). My Raceceiver was buffering and I couldn’t hear very clearly, so I wasn’t really sure what was going on," Clem said. "That’s why I stopped up there (to communicate with officials). I guess I fired too early (on the restart), I really don’t know. Yeah, that pissed me off .. that lit a fire under my ass and I was coming for them."
Key notes: Clem led 36 of the 40 laps en route to capturing the unsanctioned 604 Crate Late Model victory. ... After appearing to cross the checkers in third, Cole Exum was disqualified in post-race technical inspection; apparent fifth-place finisher Hunter Peacock was also DQ'd. ... Bubba Whitener finished seventh, giving all three Whiteners a top-10 result in the race that honors Steven "Stevie" Whitener, an accomplished racer in the Southeast who died on June 16, 2023, at the age of 64. ... Piloting the Warrior house car, Tanner English slowed while running second to draw the race's third caution on lap 19. He was found to have made contact with an infield tractor tire, folding the nose under his left-front tire. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by five incidents and lasted 27 minutes, with 10 drivers completing 40 laps and 15 running at the finish.
