GIBSONTON, Fla. (Feb. 6) — Updates and results from Tuesday’s opening round of the 48th annual Wieland Winternationals highlighted by a 30-lap, $5,000-to-win Lucas Oil Series-sanctioned Super Late Model feature (results unofficial):

Regaining the point with an inside move by Tyler Erb, pole-starting Hudson O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., led the final 20 laps to win Tuesday's $5,000 opener of the 48th annual Wieland Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park. O'Neal led 23 laps (1-3; 11-30) to capture his 24th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature victory and his third through seven races of the season.

Securing his fifth career Winternationals triumph, O'Neal has now topped three straight, going back to last year's fourth and fifth rounds. Sixth-starting Daulton Wilson moved into the runner-up spot on lap 20 and trailed O'Neal the rest of the way, finishing 0.654 of a second back.

Heat race recap

Hudson O’Neal led all eight laps to win the first heat race by 1.769 seconds over fourth-starting Ricky Thornton Jr. Second-starting Spencer Hughes held on for the third and final transfer spot into Tuesday’s $5,000-to-win opener. The first caution flew on the fourth lap when 12th-running Dan Battaglia appeared to have a mechanical failure and pounded the turn-one wall, ending his night. The second stoppage came on lap six when seventh-running Ross Bailes slowed after brushing the turn-one wall and pulled off. The third and final yellow flew on the ensuing restart when Terry Casey had a solo-spin from eighth. … Third-starting Ashton Winger powered around the outside of Dennis Erb Jr. and narrowly beat him to the line to win heat two by 0.064 of a second. Second-starting Boom Briggs claimed the third and final transfer position. The lone caution flew on lap four when Jack Riggs struck an infield tire and slowed abruptly in front of Kylan Garner; Garner continued and finished sixth while Riggs required a tow after sustaining heavy nose damage. … Garrett Smith led green-to-checkered to win heat three by 2.011 seconds over sixth-starting Brandon Sheppard, with Garrett Alberson slipping by Wil Herrington in the late stages, to complete the podium. The lone caution flew on the opening lap when Jason Jack slammed the turn-one wall and required a tow off the track. … Tyler Erb dominated heat four, leading the entire distance and winning by 0.846 of a second over fourth-starting Chase Junghans. Jimmy Owens held serve and finished third. … Jonathan Davenport led the entire distance to win heat five by 2.033 seconds over Matt Cosner. Logan Zarin started and finished third, while sixth-running Jensen Ford spun on the final lap, dropping him to 11th. … Daulton Wilson led all eight laps to win the sixth and final heat race by 0.651 of a second over Brian Shirley. Devin Moran improved six positions and rounded-out the podium finishers. The lone caution flew on lap six when Tim McCreadie pushed wide at turn-two exit, forcing Ethan Dotson into the wall and ending his night; McCreadie continued and finished fourth.

No provisionals are available for Tuesday’s 30-lap feature, which doesn’t offer Lucas Oil Series points. … The final Winternationals before East Bay’s closing has Tim Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., back in the field after skipping last year’s meet.
