Dustin Stand zips around River Cities Speedway.
What won the race: Sliding by race-long leader Tyler Peterson with four laps to go, sixth-starting Dustin Strand of Grand Forks, N.D., captured Friday's 25-lap Big Motor Mania at River Cities Speedway. Strand secured a $1,500 Northern LateModel Racing Association victory, his tour-leading fifth of the season and his second straight after winning Thursday's $2,200 opener at Victory Lane Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Quotable: "I was driving my ass off, I'll tell ya that. Car was really good and the track was fast as heck. I didn't think we'd get to (Tyler Peterson) to tell you the truth, but the lapped cars definitely helped me out," Strand said, adding that "at the end there, I was trying to keep a lapped car next to me, so the track was blocked, because I figured (Peterson) would coming screaming back by."
Key notes: Strand's 34th career NLRA win catapults him into the series points lead and further extends his advantage on the tour's all-time wins list. ... Three-time winner, Peterson, of Hickson, N.D., led the opening 21 laps before getting mired in lapped traffic and allowing Strand to slip by, taking the checkers 0.820 of a second back. ... Brad Seng pursued Peterson from laps 3-9 before giving way to Strand on lap 10 and settling for third. ... Former points leader Cole Schill finished 10th, the first driver one lap down. ... The race's lone caution flew on lap six when John Seng slowed before pulling off. ... The main event lasted eight minutes, with 17 competitors running at the finish.
On the move: Shane Edginton of East Saint Paul, Manitoba, started 17th and finished sixth.
