Tad Pospisil and supporters celebrate a $3,000 Malvern West Series victory.
What won the race: Slipping by race-long leader Charlie McKenna with five laps to go, 11th-starting Tad Pospisil of Nofolk, Neb., ran away with Friday's 25-lap Fat Tire Friday feature at Thayer County Speedway. Pospisil's $3,000 payday serves as his third Malvern Bank West Series victory of the season and his second consecutive after winning Aug. 1 at U.S. 30 Speedway in Columbus, Neb.
Quotable: “We had a damn good race car. We had one all night, we really screwed up in time trials and just made a wrong call,” Pospisil said. “(I) was worried about the slime (on the track surface) and shouldn’t have worried about it. But, we dug ourselves out and ended up in victory lane.”
Key notes: Defending race winner at Deshler, McKenna, of Ames, Iowa, led the opening 20 laps from the pole before giving way to Pospisil and finishing a distant runner-up. ... Pospisil nearly wrestled the lead away from McKenna before a lap-16 caution negated his move. McKenna enjoyed a small advantage on the ensuing restart before Pospisil powered back by a few laps later. ... Series points leader Bill Leighton Jr. took advantage of Chad Holladay's late-race bobble and finished third, with Holladay slipping back to seventh. ... Justin Zeitner advanced eight positions and took fourth. ... The race's first caution came on lap 13 when Chris Spieker slowed before pulling off. ... The second and final stoppage was for a two-car tangle on lap 16 involving Dylan Sillman and Jake Bridge. Both drivers were unable to continue. ... The race lasted 15 minutes.
On the move: Race winner Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., started 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Pospisil's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and sponsored by Signor Trucking, Window World, Iron Horse CPAs & Advisors, Dietz Well & Pumps, 97.5 WEXL/WJAG, Island Supply, Bad Chad Motorsports and Malvern Bank.
