What won the race: Repelling a late-race challenge from Caiden Black, second-starting Kyle Moore of Mansfield, Ohio, scored a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's 40-lap Don and Hans Gross Memorial at Wayne County Speedway. Moore earned his first career Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series victory and won his second major event at Wayne County after topping the track's 2023 DIRTcar Summer Nationals season finale.
Key notes: Moore won in a special No. 240 throwback scheme to a Leroy Hall-owned Camaro driven by Rick Moore. The scheme honored Hall's 21 championships across 52 years of winning. ... Fourth-starting Caiden Black closed within two tenths of a second of Moore with a handful of laps left, finishing 0.653 back at the line. ... Pole-starting Seth Daniels finished third. ... Corey Conley finished fourth after taking the spot on lap three. ... Devin Shiels outdueled Todd Brennan for fifth in the late going, prevailing as Brennan slipped to seventh. ... Series points leader Rusty Schlenk overcame a half-spin on lap three and rounded out the top 10. ... The event honored Don Gross, the former racer and longtime promoter at Wayne County, along with his grandson, Hans Gross. ... Doug Drown was piloting a No. 75 throwback wrap honoring Don; he retired from 10th on lap 24 and was credited with 16th. ... Larry Bellman started the race in a No. 7H scheme honoring Hans, but he was the race's first retiree after only two laps. ... The race was slowed by three cautions, all of them coming after Rob Anderzack's solo-spin on lap three, including two failed restart attempts. ... A red flag was displayed following Anderzack's spin, as a fan required medical attention in the grandstand area. ... Jeff Warnick slowed on the first restart attempt, while Schlenk's half-spin served as the race's final stoppage. ... The feature lasted 30 minutes, with 15 starters running at the checkers.
