What won the race: Denying Blair Nothdurft his third straight series victory with a last-lap pass, Jake Neal of Omaha, Neb., captured his first Repairable Vehicles.com Tri-State Series victory Sunday at Interstate Speedway. The 11th-starting Neal's high-side charge paid off as he slipped around Nothdurft exiting turn four on the 25th lap to win by 0.116 of a second and tally his first career tour triumph.
Quotable: “It feels awesome, I grew up watching (car owner) Al (Humphrey),” Neal said. “Al has always been pretty tough on me over there, telling me what I do wrong all the time, so I gotta thank him and (Al’s wife) Lori for everything they’re doing for us and giving us this opportunity .. and all the criticism to make me better. It’s what we’re here to do, is to win races and hopefully this is (the first) of many to come.”
Key notes: Neal, whose last Late Model feature victory came Aug. 5, 2022, at Marshalltown (Iowa) Speedway, piloted the familiar No. 6 Al and Lori Humphrey-owned car for the fourth time. ... Runner-up Blair Nothdurft was within a lap of becoming just the second driver to win three straight Tri-State Series features (Justin Zeitner pulled off the feat in 2021). ... Four cautions slowed the action. ... Second-running Justin Zeitner slowed with a flat tire on the ninth lap and, several seconds after he slowed, Chase Alves made contact. Both retired. Alves and his wife, Shelby, serve as Interstate's promoters. ... Fifth-running Trevor Anderson's smoking car headed for the infield after nine laps. ... Colby Klaassen spun atop turn two on the 20th lap. ... A dozen drivers completed 25 laps. ... Scott Ward scratched from the feature.
On the move: Winner Jake Neal started 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Neal's Humphrey Motorsports Rocket Chassis has a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and sponsorship from Joyce Agronomics, Todd's Body and Glass, Select Auto, Downtown Recycling, Midwest Outlaw Garage, SSS Motorsports, Hess Technology, Albertson Towing and Prevost Racing.
