What won the race: Fast qualifier and pole-starting Derrick Stewart of Ainsworth, Iowa, soared to his first career Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory in Friday’s 30-lap feature at Lakeside Speedway. Stewart survived a late challenge from reigning MLRA champ Chad Simpson to secure the $5,000 payday.

Quotable: "I didn't think it was gonna be that fast or that wide open or that physical, but (Chad) Simpson showed me the nose there and I got up on the wheel," Stewart said. "I'm pretty wore out."

Key notes: Stewart regained the lead twice after overtaking Tyler Kuykendall on lap two and when Simpson nosed ahead amid lapped traffic on lap 11. … Chase Junghans, who won an MLRA event at Lakeside in the fall of 2022, grabbed second from Simpson on lap 16 and finished a distant 3.7 seconds back at the checkers. … Dustin Hodges drew the race's lone caution of the race on lap three. ...
