What won the race: Leading all but the first lap, pole-starting Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., claimed Friday’s Harold Hardgrove Memorial opener at Lake Cumberland Speedway. Jameson, overcoming right-rear quarter panel damage, powered ahead of Josh Rice on the second lap and drove away with the $5,000 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series victory.

Quotable: "I'm glad we was able to get her in victory lane. I gave the boys a lot of work to do for tomorrow," Jameson said, noting the damage to his car, then adding the victory is a confidence-builder for Saturday's richer purse. "Anytime you win, it's an upper for the whole team."

The two-day event honors Harold Hardgrove, a former Kentucky racer and former Lake Cumberland Speedway promoter. Not only reinstating the Lake Cumberland Classic in 1998, Hardgrove introduced the first $10,000-to-win event there in 2002. Hardgove’s son, Brandon, currently owns and operates Lake Cumberland Speedway, holding the event annually in memory of his father; Harold died Aug. 28, 2009, at the age of 54. ...
