Dillan Stake picked up a $6,000 payday at Port Royal Speedway.
What won the race: Second-starting Dillan Stake of Three Springs, Pa., earned a dominant flag-to-flag victory in Friday's 25-lap second annual Ron Zimmerman Tribute at Port Royal Speedway, securing his first unsanctioned Limited Late Model victory of the season there. Stake beat Trent Brenneman to the flag by 2.929 seconds to claim the $6,000 payday.
Quotable: “Thank you again to the Zimmermans for doing this race, it means a lot,” Stake said. “Perfect night, I mean we started out good and just kept chugging along and never second guessed myself, just did what we normally do … and we’re finally back. I keep saying that I keep driving harder and harder, but especially racing tonight with the Lucas Oil (Super Late Models), this is the hardest I’ve driven for a while. These things, they keep getting better the harder you drive and that’s the best thing to do.”
Key notes: Third-starting Trent Brenneman grabbed second from Spike Moore on lap 18, but could never seriously challenged Stake for the lead. Brenneman's runner-up finish gives him sole possession of the track points lead. ... Pole-starting Moore, of Defiance, Pa., faded to finish fourth. ... Ryan Zook improved four positions and placed sixth after entering tied with Brenneman in the standings. … The event honored Ron Zimmerman of Mifflintown, Pa., the former President and CEO of Zimmerman Truck Repair and Zimmerman Truck Lines; He also served as General Manager for Mifflintown’s highly renowned Stop 35 briefly. He died on Feb. 5, 2021, at the age of 78. ... The race lasted 13 minutes after being slowed once when Casey Steinhoff spun on lap 11 before calling it a night.
On the move: Andrew Yoder of Middleburg, Pa., started 16th and finished 10th.
