What won the race: Overtaking race-long pacesetter Jason Feger on a lap-20 restart, fourth-starting Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., cruised to win Saturday’s 30-lap MARS Late Model Championship Series stop at Red Hill Raceway. Unzicker bagged $5,000 for his fourth MARS victory of the season and the 11th of his career.
Quotable: “Jason (Feger) set a pretty torrid pace there at the beginning. I knew I had a pretty good pace, but honestly, I knew it was gonna be tough to beat him,” Unzicker said. “I just got lucky on the restart, he pushed up a little bit and (my) car was good enough to get underneath.”
Key notes: Second-starting Jason Feger, also a four-time series winner this season, settled for second, 0.651 of a second back after leading the opening 20 laps. ... Feger now holds a slim 37-point advantage over Unzicker with seven races left on the schedule. ... Pole-starting Bob Gardner slipped to fourth. ... Shannon Babb secured his second top-five finish aboard a new Category 5 Race Car after finishing runner-up in Friday's opener at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill. ... Daniel Adam backed up his first career MARS win in Tri-City's opener with an eighth-place effort. ... The main event lasted 21 minutes, with 10 drivers completing 30 laps and 11 running at the checkers.
On the move: Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., started 11th and finished fifth; Mark Voigt of Marine, Ill., started 13th and finished seventh.
