What won the race: Riding the top side and regaining control from Dustin Sorensen as they battled in lapped traffic on lap 41, fourth-starting Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, cruised the rest of the way to win Friday's 50-lap Bayou Classic at Boothill Speedway. Gustin led twice for 37 laps (12-38, 41-50) to grab a $15,000 check that marked his fifth World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series victory of the season and 10th of his career.

Quotable: “I knew the pace I was setting up top wasn’t what I could do. I just didn’t want to tear the deck out of it and everything else,” Gustin said. “Dustin (Sorensen) is really good on the bottom, he always has been. I’ve raced with him a bunch throughout the years and that kid is good, especially if you give him that bottom, he’ll go around that bottom really well. I pulled down there and tried to block (him) but hit that slime (in turn four) and washed all the way up the racetrack. I thought I gave it away right there.”

Key notes: The victory gave Gustin back-to-back WoO victories after he won the tour's most recent event on Aug. 24 at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio. ... Bobby Pierce reclaimed second on lap 47 and finished a distant runner-up. ... Sorensen ran the low line to perfection, picking his way by Gustin to pace laps 39-40 before Gustin and Pierce powered back by and settled for third, falling short of his first-ever WoO win.. ... Pole-starting Brandon Sheppard slipped to fourth in the final rundown but maintained a 50-point lead on Pierce with four events remaining. ... Cade Dillard, racing near his hometown and honoring his father, Greg, with a throwback scheme, ran the bottom and improved four positions to complete the top five. ... Second-starting Brian Shirley led the opening 11 laps before fading to 10th. ... The race was slowed by four cautions, the final being the biggest when Brian Rickman, Tristan Chamberlain and Tony Lindsey all tangled in turn two on lap 17. Rickman and Lindsey called it a night, while Chamberlain continued and was credited with 18th. ... Jon Mitchell spun to cause consecutive stoppages on lap eight and the ensuing restart attempt. ... Tyler Bruening slowed with heavy nose damage to draw the first yellow flag. He soldiered to a 15th-place result. ... Tyler Erb, Spencer Hughes, Jarret Stuckey and Tanner Kellick all suffered crashes during the first consolation. Clay Stuckey, Kyle Beard, Morgan Bagley joined them as notable non-qualifiers.
