What won the race: Inheriting control when race-long leader Jason Jameson slowed with a flat right-rear tire on lap 28, fifth-starting Freddie Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., paced the final three laps to win Friday's $5,000 Cheaps Chevrolet 30 at Mudlick Valley Raceway. Carpenter collected his second career Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series victory and his first since a $10,059 payday on July 22, 2017, at Richmond (Ky.) Raceway.
Key notes: Carpenter earned his fourth victory of the season, all of them coming since Sept. 13 at Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, Ohio, boosting his total race winnings to more than $22,000. ... Carpenter will chase the Iron-Man weekend sweep at Mudlick in Saturday's $10,000-to-win second annual Fall 40. ... Jason Jameson led the opening 27 circuits from the outside front-row before slowing with a flat right rear to draw the race's fifth and final caution. He finished 12th after changing the tire, the final driver to complete 30 laps. ... Seth Daniels inherited runner-up on the lap-28 restart and finished 0.901 of a second behind Carpenter at the line. ... Seventh-starting Tim Dohm rounded out the podium finishers. ... Shannon Thornsberry gained five spots and finished fourth. ... R.J. Conley, the defending Fall 40 winner at Mudlick, advanced six positions and placed seventh. ... Pole-starting Rusty Schlenk slowed with a flat right rear to cause the first stoppage on lap two. He slowed with another flat right rear under the lap-28 yellow before soldiering to a ninth-place result. ... Zach Hill drew the fourth caution on lap seven before calling it a night. ... The third incident came on lap three, ending the nights for Ryan Missler, Kirk Phillips, Shane Bailey, Derek Fisher and Kenny Christy. Missler, who broke an oil pump belt, and Phillips were battling for a top-five spot before the multicar melee. ... The main event lasted 38 minutes, with 17 starters running at the checkers.
