What won the race: Overtaking race-long leader Derek Fisher on lap 20, pole-starting Josh Rice of Verona, Ky., led the remainder of Saturday's $10,000 second annual Fall 40 at Mudlick Valley Raceway. Rice recorded his third Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series victory of the season and the 16th of his career, further extending his lead on the all-time wins list.
Key notes: Rice now has two $10,000 triumphs this season at Mudlick, the other coming June 15 also in Iron-Man Series competition. ... Derek Fisher led the opening 19 laps from the outside front-row before giving way to Rice and settling for second, a distant 5.608 seconds back. ... Fifth-starting Freddie Carpenter, winner of Friday's $5,000 opener at Mudlick, grabbed third on lap 17 before rounding out the podium finishers. ... Jason Jameson started 12th and finished fourth, one night removed from leading 27 laps before slowing with a flat right rear in Friday's opener. ... Luke Morey gained seven spots and finished eighth. ... After winning the consolation, Kirk Phillips slowed from 14th to draw the race's opening caution on the third lap. ... R.J. Conley, winner of last year's inaugural $10,000 Fall 40, slowed from 21st to cause the second stoppage on lap eight. ...
