Daulton Wilson celebrates a $5,000 victory at Ponderosa Speedway.
What won the race: Fifth-starting Daulton Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C., rallied to win Friday's 35-lap Big Daddy Classic at Ponderosa Speedway, earning a $5,000 payday and his fourth overall victory of the season. Wilson beat his teammate, Jason Jameson, to the checkers as both drivers intend to compete in Saturday's $7,500-to-win Jeff Gullett Tribute at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Ky., an event that honors the late Rattliff Racing crew chief.
Key notes: Wilson notched his first win since topping an Iron-Man Series field for $7,500 on Aug. 30 at Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park. ... Pole-starting Jason Jameson settled for runner-up to his JRR teammate; he earned $200 for fast time. ... Devin Gilpin improved three positions to round out the podium. ... Josh Rice gained three spots and finished sixth. ... James Rice was an early retiree and credited with 13th after starting sixth. ... Jason George scratched from the main event. ... The race is the first at the track since Ryan Willis was officially revealed as the new lessee. He purchased the lease from Brandon Hardgrove earlier this season and Brad Ferguson of Danville, Ky., the nephew of late racer Johnny Wheeler and frequent Ponderosa employee, is handling promotions and race direction. .... Willis, a Louisiana native who now lives in Kentucky, originally bought property adjacent to the track to develop an RV park but got interested in taking over the racetrack. ... Ferguson plans 20-25 races next season on Friday nights with Crate Late Models among weekly divisions and undetermined Super Late Model touring specials.
On the move: Race winner Daulton Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C., started fifth.
