Rick Eckert (0) held off Ross Robinson (7) to capture Georgetown Speedway's Mid-Atlantic Championship.
What won the race: Swapping the lead with Ross Robinson in the closing circuits, Rick Eckert of York, Pa., emerged victorious in a thrilling finish at Georgetown Speedway. Eckert took the checkered flag just .299 of a second ahead of his close friend Robinson in the 40-lap feature to score his third-consecutive Mid-Atlantic Championship victory, worth $7,000.
Quotable: “I heard Ross going around me on the outside,” Eckert said. “I’m like, ‘Dammit,’ and luckily he hit the hole there and bounced across and about turned around and I got straightened back up, but I knew I had no speed, I knew he was gonna go back by me, and then he did. Then he left me just enough room out there to roll around him. I just laid on it out there and hoped I had enough traction and just chugged back around him there.”
Key notes: Taking command on the opening circuit from the outside pole, Eckert paced the field until losing the top spot to a hard-charging Ross Robinson on lap 38. Eckert regained the lead the following circuit and repelled a last-lap pass attempt to secure his fifth career victory at Georgetown. ... Seventh-place finisher Trevor Collins of Seaford, Del., was crowned Georgetown's 2024 Super Late Model track champion. ... The caution flag waved on lap 21 for a spinning Andrew Yoder, who then made contact with Mark Pettyjohn under caution before exiting the track. ... Danny Snyder retired on lap six after clipping the frontstrech wall; he finished 16th. ... After a multitude of cautions on the opening circuit, Matt Hill and Kerry King Sr. were unable to complete a lap. ... The 40-lap feature lasted 33 minutes with 10 starters completing the entire distance.
On the move: Chad Myers of Hampstead, Md., started 17th and finished eighth.
