Randy Weaver celebrates a $100,000 604 Crate victory at All-Tech.
What won the race: Regaining the lead for the final time on lap 51, 13th-starting Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., led the final 10 laps to win Saturday's $100,000 XR 604 Crate Nationals at All-Tech Raceway. Weaver led three times for 37 laps (16-40, 42-43, 51-60) and beat Michael Brown to the checkers by 0.730 of a second for his second overall victory of the season.
Quotable: “(This win) is at the top, for sure. Man, I’m telling you, what a race … what a racetrack,” Weaver said. “Man, I really messed up last night and I ran that lap over and over all night, I told (my team) ‘Just give me a good car and I will not do that again’ … I’ve never been here before, now I think it’s one of my favorite racetracks.”
Key notes: Weaver grabbed his first win since Sept. 21's $10,000 Alabama State Championship at Phenix City's East Alabama Motor Speedway. ... Michael Brown regained the runner-up spot on lap 58 after a lap-56 restart penalty set him back to fourth; Brown, winner of Thursday's $5,000 opener, led the opening five laps. ... The penalty put Brandon Overton on the front row, but he settled for fourth. ... Mason Zeigler followed Brown by Overton on lap 58 and rounded out the podium finishers. ... Ricky Weiss gained 12 spots and completed the top five. ... Jason Garver, Wednesday's fast qualifier, led twice for eight laps (41, 44-50) and finished sixth. ... Michael Page overcame a flat tire on lap 34 and finished eighth. ... NInth-finishing Cody Overton slowed from eighth with a flat right-rear on lap 10. ... Mark Whitener, winner of Friday's $5,000 prelim, ran as high as third in the opening laps before settling for 11th. ... Tyler Erb battled as high as third before fading on a lap-39 restart and finishing 12th. ... Kyle Bronson slowed from third with a flat left-rear to draw the race's fifth caution on lap 56; he was credited with 16th after pitting. ... Trent Ivey finished 17th after transferring through the C-main. ... Fourth-starting Ross Bailes led laps 6-15 before retiring on lap 39. ... There were eight lead changes between Brown, Bailes, Weaver and Garver. ... Chase Holland transferred out of the E-main before folding his nose on an infield tire and pulling off on lap 25. ... The 60-lapper was slowed by six incidents and lasted 42 minutes, with 19 starters completing the distance. ... Nevin Gainey charged from ninth to win the night's $2,000 non-qualifiers' race.
On the move: Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., started 24th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Weaver's Chip Vineyard-owned CVR Race Cars entry is powered by a DJ's Performance Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Vineyard Landscapes, Stanco Equipment, Duplissey Racing, Penske Racing Shocks and Fastlane Signs & Graphics.
