Garrett Smith earned $7,553 for his Buckshot Speedway victory.
What won the race: Pole-starting Garrett Smith of Eatonton, Ga., led all 40 laps Friday at Buckshot Speedway for a $7,553 Schaeffer's Spring Nationals victory. Smith took the checkers nearly a second ahead of sixth-starting Cody Overton for his second career tour victory in a race plagued by three early pileups.
Quotable: "God's good, man. I feel like I've been kind of doubting myself and I've just been talking to Him and reading some stuff and just trying to get my motivation up," Smith said. "I've been been struggling here lately and we've been working hard at the shop. I just can't thank everybody (enough) that helps me."
Key notes: Garrett Smith, the 2022 Dirt Track World Champion, ended a 13-month drought in Super Late Model competition. ... His previous Schaeffer's Spring Nationals victory came April 21, 2022, at Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, N.C. ... Roberts climbed from his car and showed displeasure with Cody Overton but was restrained; his car was towed away. The runner-up Overton took full blame in his postrace interview. .... The first caution appeared on the second lap for a nine-car pileup between turns one and two; a red flag was required for the cleanup (Kendall Franklin and Jack Riggs retired). ... A lap-four caution appeared for a turn-two tangle involving four drivers, including Kyle Bryant, who retired. ... The final caution appeared on the 36th lap when Grayson Brewer spun in turn four. ... Bill Mahan lost his left-front wheel before competitors went into parade-lap formation. ... Tim Armstrong and Matthew Taylor scratched from the scheduled 21-car feature. ... Garrett Smith's brother Griffin won the $2,000 Red Clay Series feature for 602 Crate Late Models.
