Michael Brown inherited his first career CRUSA victory, worth $10,000.
What won the race: After apparent winner Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., was disqualified in postrace technical inspection several hours after the event, sixth-starting Michael Brown of Pageland, S.C., was credited with winning Saturday's $10,000 second annual Southern Heritage Classic at Needmore Speedway. Brown initially crossed the line 0.222 of a second behind Whitener before inheriting the Rogers-Dabbs Crate Racin' USA 604 victory in his first series feature start.
Key notes: Mark Whitener, the 2023 CRUSA series champ, was disqualified for having a non-General Motors oil pan installed on Augie Burttram's Big Frog Motorsports No. c02 entry; Whitener was moved to last in the final rundown. .... Michael Brown also won aboard the John Page Racing No. 75 Longhorn on Dec. 12, a $5,000 XR 604 Crate Nationals prelim at All-Tech Raceway in Ellisville, Fla. ... Among three early cautions was a spin by Bubba Whitener (he was sent off the track after he spun to the infield but pulled back on the track). ... Austin Bloodworth slowed with a lap-21 flat. ... Bobby Mills spun on laps 32 and 38 and fourth-running Michael Brown (in a Wesley Page-owned Longhorn Chassis) spun on the lap-32 restart (he was restored to his position). ... Bubba Roling slowed on the 36th lap for the seventh yellow. ... Nevin Gainey won the $5,000 Limited Late Model feature and Mark Whitener collected $4,000 in CRUSA 602 feature.
On the move: Pearson Lee Williams of Dublin, Ga., started 15th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Brown’s John Page Racing Longhorn by Wesley Page is powered by a Hendren Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Coltman Farms Racing, Hoopaugh Grading Company, Langley Collision Center, Indocil Art, VP Racing Fuels, Bilstein Shocks, Allstar Performance and Collins Signs.
Points chase: After Needmore: 1. Michael Brown (100); 2. Jeremy Steele (96); 3. Pearson Lee Williams (94); 4. Trent Ivey (92); 5. Jimmy Thomas (90).
