Weeks fends off Tuckers for Friendship victory
By Corey M. Hensley
Friendship Motor SpeedwayELKIN, N.C. (July 12) — Series points leader Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, N.C., survived a challenge from Ray Tucker at Friendship Motor Speedway and held on to win his second straight Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series victory. Weeks, who won the previous weekend at Fayetteville (N.C.) Motor Speedway, earned $4,000.
Benji Cole of Canon, Ga., ended up second followed by Randle Chupp of Troutman, N.C., Luke Roffers of Onieda, Wis., and Ed Gibbons of Manning, S.C. Two top contenders — unrelated drivers with the surname Tucker — ran into trouble. Ray Tucker rallied to challenge Weeks for the lead, but a tangle with a lapped car sent him pitside. Noel Tucker, who started outside the front row, ran among the leaders until a flat tire knocked him from contention.
Notes: Noel Tucker won the evening's Crate feature; he was 12th in the Clash main event. ... Among drivers who failed to qualify for the feature: G.R. Smith, Jimmy McCormick, Dan Breuer, Justin Labonte and Keith Jacobs. ... Next up for the Carolina Clash is a $4,000-to-win event on Aug. 2 at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va.
