Payne wins MARS-DLRA Shootout at Midway

LEBANON, Mo. (July 11) — Eighth-starting Jeremy Payne of Springfield, Mo., overtook Tony Jackson Jr. on the 18th lap at Midway Speedway en route to a victory in an event co-sanctioned by the MARS DIRTcar Series and Allstate DirtLate Model Racing Association. Payne earned $3,000 for the victory in a race where 19 of 23 starters were running on the lead lap at the finish. | Slideshow
Will Vaught of Crane, Mo., fresh off a month of racing on the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals, finished second followed by Steve Rushin of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Jackson and hometown driver Brandon McCormick. Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Ark., dropped out on the 16th lap and Terry Phillips, Payne's teammate, was towed off after his car's rear end broke.
