Boland rallies from 12th for MSCC win at Whynot

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Aug. 9) — Mike Boland of Cuba, Ala., rallied from his 12th starting spot to overtake Shep Lucas of McKenzie, Ala., on the 27th lap and go on to his first Mississippi State Championship Challenge victory since 2005. Boland, who was up to the second spot after just nine laps, earned $2,500 for the victory. | Slideshow
Scott Slay of Clinton, Miss., started outside the front row and swapped the second spot with Boland through the race's middle stages. He followed Boland past Lucas but settled for second while series points leader David Ashley of Zachary, La., rallied from 14th to finish third. Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., and Lucas rounded out the top five. Polesitter David Breazeale of Four Corners, Miss., led the first six laps but was listed 19th in the final rundown.
Notes: Boland's self-designed Trak-Star Race Car has a Jay Dickens engine and sponsorship from B&K Underground and Boland Performance. ... Scott Creek of Franklinton, La., was the second fastest qualifier, finished fifth in the dash and ninth in the feature. ... The next MSCC event is scheduled for Aug. 23 at Columbus (Miss.) Speedway, a $2,500-to-win makeup from an Aug. 2 rainout.
